For My Friends – Tee

“…but I’ll always answer.”
~ Tee

I was having a terrible week. Super insecure. When I get PMS I get really paranoid that everyone just wishes I would go away, that I’m a huge bother, and everything I say is slightly offensive or annoying. So I was having one of those weeks, and I called Tee.

I said, “I’m just afraid that when the phone rings, you’re on the other end rolling your eyes going, ‘oh no, not friggin’ her again.” She laughed with a smile that said, ‘oh yeah, that might happen sometimes’ without actually saying it, and then she said, ‘yeah…but I’ll always answer.”

Nowadays, when I’m having one of those weeks, I remember Tee and that look on her face. I know now that the important thing is that she’ll answer, even if I’m being tiring. Knowing that gives me the ability to be a little less tiring…and gives me the ability to NOT call when I’m like that. If one person understands, the rest of life gets a little easier, you know?

Thanks, Tee.

For my Friends – John Grasso

(spoken in an old Jewish lady’s voice) “It aaaall stahts with gaahlic.”
~John Grasso

My beloved Mondo was one of the first people to try to teach me how to cook. I do a lot more cooking nowadays than I used to (mostly dinners) and when I start, EVERY time I start, the first thing I consider reaching for is fresh cloves of garlic. Even if I don’t use it, it’s the first thing I think of. And as I stare at the empty pan, what I hear in my head is John.

I use lots of garlic. Lots and lots. 😀
